Dumbo

"This is ART...not an oil change."

Episode Two: The Target

Twenty-five years ago today

April 8, 1986
Tuesday

My glands under my throat seem to be swelling up. I think it’s because of my bicycling out in the cold air.

I had a great sales order while at work today. I sold 8 WATS lines and it contributed to my total of 595 PNS points for the day.

Margaret Lai and I took a walk over to Michael’s Art Supplies. I found a few more of those transparent sheets that I like. Unfortunately, I forgot to bring them home and left them by my desk.

I wrote—or at least started---a letter to Paloma. I miss her. When she receives my letter I will make her well aware of how much I am missing her.

Amy Platt called me at around 3PM today.

My brother, John, and Sherri were attending a Grand Opening Season A’s game tonight. They asked if I would take care of Ashley. And so I most certainly did.

While I was babysitting Amy came over and brought her DUMBO video cassette tape. We sort of watched it, too. That was funny. Ashley was being very fun tonight. I taught her how to say “Amy”.

By 11PM John and Sherri showed up. I hit the sack thereafter. Amy left for her home at that point also. I learned tonight that Amy was a bit pissed that I didn’t call her back last Sunday. I gave a feeble excuse. Oh what the hell…she’s right. I should have called.

I am still striving for this new position as a Copy Service Artist. I am crossing my fingers. That’s for sure.

Dale Orlando returned to work today. I couldn’t believe it but he went to San Diego and Tijuana with Rick Clark and his blond pal named Paul. I remember I used to find Rick Clark to be a very cool cat—but now I am skeptical.

Dale said to me in a whisper, “I told Rick that you’ve been keeping yours for a long time.”
Leave it to Dale to start telling people all about my business. Dale brought a black leather jacket. I laughed quietly to myself because it reminded me of a Michael Jackson jacket (ugh).
I confided, “You know, Dale…Rick is in my journal from way back when and I just started Journal number fifteen the other day.”
“Really now—the last I recalled you were on Journal thirteen.”
I liked Dale’s remark.

Hmmm…the saga continues…
