What If

Posted on 07:35 by Unknown

"The funny thing about weddings you end up thinking about yourself."
-as heard in the 2010 film, EAT PRAY LOVE.

Twenty-five years ago today:

Sunday

Paloma spent the night again and we made love a second time but I think that’ll be the last. If she gets pregnant I don’t know what I’d do. Oh no…wait a minute…I am so dumb! She didn’t spend the night this time. I telephoned her this morning and she was so tired, so I ended up adventuring out on my own to the Metro to the flea market. I bought all sorts of T-shirts, scarves, an outfit for Ashley and a shirt or two for myself.

I telephoned Paloma at around 4PM. She came over to pick me up.
Paloma said, “Your Aunt called me, looking for you.”
“Oh that’s right! My Uncle Richard is in Paris.”
Paloma and I ended up going to Pat and Richard Lucero’s hotel. We looked around and called their room but they weren’t around. So, we went for crepes and a movie.

We saw a movie called BLOOD SIMPLE. It was an American film which was kind of “Yucky”. It meant well. The plot was fairly good. The character Abby (played by Frances McDormand) is cheating on her saloonkeeper husband, Marty. The object of her affections is Ray, one of Marty's bartenders. Marty hires a detective to kill them. The detective has other, more lucrative plans of his own. So begins a calculating round of double and triple crosses that build to a bloodcurdling, surprise-filled climax.

Paloma drove me home and I went to bed alone. So far, we’ve been pretty quiet about her staying over and stuff. She doesn’t seem to gripe about anything.

We did go for dinner after the BLOOD SIMPLE movie. It was kind of silly because we didn’t have enough Francs. Luckily, Paloma’s brother lived next door. It was a fun night. She made a ‘what if’ comment.
“What if I became pregnant,” Paloma announced suddenly.
I shrugged, thinking quietly, “So now I am under that same Rachelle ‘question mark’ syndrome.”

"I'm the master of my fate. I am the captain of my soul."

-as heard in the 2009 film, INVICTUS, on Dec. 17, 2009.
