A Sunday Visit to Napa Valley

Twenty-five years ago today:

May 5, 1985
Sunday

Dale invited mom and I to Napa Valley today to see a candle specialty store that he’d heard about that sells items we may want to sell in our future store.
I said, “I think that would be fun.”
My mom said to Dale yesterday, “Okay, I’ll go.”

I was at mom’s house and we called Sherri to see if she might want to go to Napa, too. If not, we asked if we could take Ashley along with us. Sherri didn’t come along but we did take Ash for the ride. First, we drove to Pittsburg in my convertible directly to Dale and Dee’s house. Introductions were made and we saw baby Andrew, too. We all piled in to Dale’s Grand Prix for the outing to Napa.

We took pictures along the way. I took one great shot of Ashley standing inside a telephone booth, holding the receiver. It was cute.

The Candle Shop had some great, unique items. After visiting this shop we went for a few wine tasting sips at a winery.

It became tiring after being on the road so long. When we returned to Pittsburg all I wanted to do was return to Alameda. I could tell mom felt the same way. So Ashley, mom and I headed home.

After mom and I dropped Ashley at home we dropped at LUCKY’s for groceries and then stopped by NATION’s for burgers-to-go. While at LUCKY’s I took care of my assignment to buy refreshments for our office pot-luck tomorrow. I was in-charge of drinks.

I wanted to change clothes, so we stopped at my pad. Mom met Marty, my roommate, for the first time. I also had to return a quick phone call to Rachelle Davies. She just wanted to gab. I believe she is very infatuated with me right now. I guess I am too since she’s so “new”. I explained that I was going to visit my mom and watch some movie called “LACE II”.
Rachelle said, “Just be sure you remember me during the TV commercials while watching LACE II.”
“Oh, I’ll remember you during the movie as well as the commercials,” I replied with laughter.
She giggled.
“Listen, if you’re not busy next Saturday would you like to come to my niece, Ashley’s, birthday party?”
“Okay, I think I can.”
That should be interesting. I have a feeling that Dale, Dee and Andrew (my Godson) may be attending, too.

Oh! How could I forget! The BIG NEWS of the morning was learning that Helen is pregnant. The baby is due in October or November. How exciting is that! I was an Uncle in 1984 and I’ll be an Uncle and a Godfather in 1985. That’s plenty of kids for me to handle at this point.

After enjoying my NATION’s burger with mom we watched the “LACE II” movie. After the movie I headed home for a restful Sunday night’s sleep. Yawn.
