Friday
Once again work dragged on. My section was having dinner together tonight, so it was something to look forward to.
Margaret Lai and I ate lunch together at Natoma’s yesterday. She shared her own versions of Dale’s obnoxiousness.
Margaret whispered, “Dale is saying that you and I don’t answer the Intra-company lines. That’s not true at all.”
I agreed. “No, it’s not true. He’s a T.O.L.”
“What’s that? A T.O.L.?”
“Don’t you know?”
“No.”
“It’s a Tub of Lard.”
She laughed.
Dale called me early this morning.
“Michael,” Dale stuttered. “Is it okay if we pick you up today since we’re both going to that section dinner tonight?”
“Okay.” I was affirmative to the suggestion although I shouldn’t have.
Margaret, Dale and I rode together in Dale’s car to the restaurant. Margaret shared some funny experiences from her early days.
Margaret giggled. “One time I went out with a dentist and he pulled out his thing.”
We laughed.
Dale asked, “What did you do?”
“Well, it was so long that I wouldn’t let him near me.”
That was funny. What does this say about dentists?
While Margaret and I were in the bathroom we could talk because the vent was loud enough in-between the thin walls.
Margaret whispered, “I don’t trust Daddy-O.”
She referred to Dale as ‘Daddy-O’. That was funny, too.
“I feel the same way. I am going to get out of staying here too late.”
I maintained my silence on the subject of Daddy-O because I knew Dale was right outside eavesdropping. Margaret had no idea. Yikes.
The dinner was nice. We all had a pretty good time.
Dale slyly said, “You know, Michael, you wouldn’t believe it but Andrew has gotten really big. You will find out when you baptize him very soon.”
I didn’t say anything at that point but I am not going to baptize him. I need to tell him. I am happy enough with his having my name (Andrew ‘Michael Joe’ Orlando).
I went home and did aerobics for one and a half hours. Then I went to the gym at 11PM.
Why do people move? In the hope of a better life.
